Krabi town

Krabi comes alive at night.  The first shot is the street where we're staying, right adjacent to the night market where we go for dinner.  We're staying at Smile Guesthouse, which I highly recommend for anyone coming to Krabi - from their rooftop patio you can see along the river, which is especially cool when the tide is low and all the crab-eating macaques storm the shores looking for dinner.  The people in the photo at the very bottom are brother and sister who own and run it.  We came downstairs last night to find them eating tons of seafood that the brother had cooked in curries, garlic and chili sauces, also some raw pork (hello neurocysticercosis!), and plenty of Thai beer.  They invited us to join them, and never ones to say no to home cooked local food, we sat down and feasted with them (this was after we had eaten our dinner at the night market).

Because of the Buddhist New Year that starts tomorrow, there was a big celebration a few blocks away, with a stage set up for singers who were never really in key.    Last weekend Marika and I stumbled across a similar celebration in the same spot, so I think the Thai like a good excuse to party.  We're all really sad to miss out on Songkran, the water festival for the new year, but things in Bangkok seem to be getting steadily worse and we want to get out before any airport closures happen.
